Ask Ivor

an unidentified caller asks:

"Did Jesus really speak Greek? Wasn't it Roman?"

The Romans were occupiers of Palestine at the time of Jesus, and had been for about 90 years, but prior to that the Greeks had controlled the Middle East for 167 years. Among themselves, the Romans spoke Latin, but Greek was still the international language at this time. It is assumed that Jesus spoke Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
